The University of Saint Francis community seeks a Vice President for Academic Affairs to assist in leading the institution to its next level of success through the strategic development and implementation of an inclusive and collaborative academic vision.
Located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the University of Saint Francis is a private, Catholic university in the Franciscan tradition. Rooted in the Catholic and Franciscan traditions of Faith and Reason, USF engages a diverse community in learning, leadership, and service. Celebrating 125 years of higher education in 2015, the hallmarks of a USF education are: a personalized experience that puts students at the center; a caring and committed faculty who are experts in their disciplines and dedicated to student learning and success; a relevant education that combines the liberal arts, pre-professional programs, and real-world experience; and career success as evidenced by the fact that 97% of USF graduates are employed in their preferred field or enrolled in an advance degree program within six months of graduation.
USF is financially strong and well-managed, with budgetary surpluses, low debt or deferred maintenance, and a growing endowment. In addition, there is positive institutional momentum, including a recently completed Higher Learning Commission reaccreditation visit; substantive addition to the Achatz Hall of Science building and a new chapel on target for completion this year; and a renovation of the existing Science building to be completed in 2019. This strong foundation will provide the new VPAA the opportunity to focus on academic initiatives and activities that will move the University forward strategically.
USF offers associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees as well as undergraduate and graduate certificates. Nearly 2,300 students are enrolled in one of over 70 majors housed in four schools: the School of Creative Arts, the Keith Busse School of Business & Entrepreneurial Leadership, the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and the School of Health Sciences. The 162 full- and part-time faculty are dedicated to a strong culture of academic citizenship, which reflects the institutional values of academic excellence, service, community engagement, and mutual support. The breadth of its programs and a robust general education curriculum continues to strengthen the university in offering an education in the liberal arts tradition.
The Vice President for Academic Affairs reports directly to USF’s president, Sister M. Elise Kriss, OSF, and serves as the institution’s chief academic officer responsible for the vision and implementation of academic programming and academic support services. The successful candidate will: be a practicing Roman Catholic with an active faith life; possess a terminal degree and have achieved the rank of Associate Professor or higher; have a minimum of seven years of progressive academic leadership; be an engaged member of both the institutional and local communities; and be an entrepreneurial servant leader who makes strategic, data-driven decisions and implements change respectfully.
